2006 Baia Mare Conference

Report from Baia Mare Conference

From 2- 5 March 2006, the conference "Virtual Canada 2nd International Meeting of Young Canadianists" organized by The Canadian Studies Centre at North University of Baia Mare (in association with the Canadian Embassy in Bucharest) took place in Baia Mare (Romania). The 2nd Meeting aimed to review the present state of researches conducted by young Canadianists on Canadian Studies in different fields such as Medias, Politics, Economics, Literature and Culture.

The conference consisted of presentations (either English or French), panels and workshops, giving a great opportunity to promote the exchange of ideas and discussion. The topics were inspired by Margaret Atwood’s output, distinction between Canadian and American cultural characteristics, Canadian identity, baseball, or Canada’s Aboriginal People customs. The presentations will be published in Proceedings.

First of all, the 2nd Meetings indented to develop links between young Canadianists. The experienced researches’ (professor Gadpaille from University of Maribor, professor Epp from Lakehead University and professor Olos from North University of Baia Mare) key note lectures allowed them to gain a proper understanding of problems relating
to Canadian Studies issues.

The Canadian Studies Centre at North University of Baia Mare successfully held a 1st Unconventional Meeting of Young Canadianists in April 2002. In my opinion, the second edition was very fruitful. Let me wish good luck in organizing following Meetings.
