In April 2025, the Faculty of Humanities at the University of Silesia in Katowice, along with the Trans-Indigena Research Team, will host Cheryl Suzack (Batchewana First Nations), Professor of English & Indigenous Studies, Faculty of Arts & Science and Faculty of Law at the University of Toronto in Canada. Her research focuses on American and Indigenous law in the context of Indigenous literature, with a particular emphasis on the writing by Indigenous women.
On April 3rd (Thursday), 11:45, lecture hall 0.51, Sosnowiec, Faculty of Humanities Prof. Suzack will deliver on open lecture entitled: “Thresholds of Difference within Indigenous Women’s Activism, Or How Indigenous Women Use Culture to Combat State Violence and Restore Community.”
She will also conduct two seminars on the topic: “Indigenous Peoples and Climate Justice: Storying the Activism of Indigenous Human Rights Defenders.”
